About

Sandro Haick Thomaz, or simply Sandro Haick, was born under the sign of music. At age 2, Sandro got his first drum set from his father, the drummer Netinho. By the age of 12, he participated in the children's group “Bom Bom”, recording for CBS the hit “Vamos a La Playa”, appearing in several radio and television programs, traveling throughout Brazil for concerts. Endowed with some inborn talent, soon the necessity of moving into harmonic and melodic instruments pressed on, and Sandro started studying guitar and musical theory, having private lessons with Mozart Mello for one year, and musical perception with Ricardo Brent at the Universidade Livre de Musica, and harmony with Claudio Leal Ferreira. He exercised his dual practice of guitar and drums in several local Sao Paulo venues (Sanja Jazz Bar, Jazz and Blues, etc) in a very fruitful phase, until he felt another strong necessity to amplify even more his musical talents, and he dedicated another 4 years to the intense study of electric and acoustic basses. Still drums, electric guitar, electric and upright basses were not enough, and were added to the mix 6 and 7 string nylon and steel acoustic guitars, bandolim, Brazilian percussions in general, melodica, and he is currently dedicating his practice time to the study of piano and keyboards in general, and, very unpretentiously, transversal flute and flugelhorn. Sandro Haick breathes music, his geniality a fact. He is not only a multi-instrumentalist, but also an arranger, producer, musical director, recording and mixing technician, having started a very productive phase as composer with over fifty instrumental titles to his credit in varied styles. Sandro Haick is certainly one of the most complete and mature Brazilian musicians in the contemporary scene. Conservatory teaching positions: Institute of Guitar and Technology -IGT (1987), Steps Ahead (1988), Souza Lima (1996 to 97), IGT (1998 to 99) . Today he teaches private and restricted lessons in his studio. Sandro's Instructional Video called “Bateria Rock Fusion” was released by MPO Vídeos in 1992, distributed today by Aprenda Videos. A few events in which he permormed include: the 2000 Visa Prize of Instrumental Music, alongside Thiago Espírito Santo, interpreting songs by Hermeto Pascoal; Cascavel Jazz Festival in the years of 2000 e 2004 ; The Savassi Jazz Festival and Lounge of Belo Horizonte in 2004; Duos Brasileiros in the Theater Cultura Inglesa in 2004; Guitarras Paulistanas in Tonton Jazz and Music Bar em 2004; several Sescs throughout Brasil; The Duo Festival in the Cultural Center Vergueiro em 2004; The 1st and 2nd Brazilian Drummers' Encounter in the Sesc Pompéia in Sao Paulo; Via Jazz Brasil Contrapontos etc...
